Vexillology
the flags presented below have varying degrees of inspiration and aesthetic preferences. Some have potential for realization. Others are simple improvements in aesthetic design. The purpose is to encourage the mind to the possibilities available to our world.
Flag of the American Outer-Space Company
The Flag of the American Outer-Space Company (AOC) is for a space trading company that sponsors independent space ventures. The company and flag takes inspiration from the Dutch East India Company. The flag is an inverted Dutch East India Company flag. The “V” functions as an “A” and an allusion the delta commonly associated with American space ventures.
Flag of Canada
The Flag of Canada is for the proposed Protectorate of Canada. It has blue on the sides representing its ever growing relationship with the United States while still retaining its original proportions and red maple leaf.
Flag of Chicago (2076)
The Flag of Chicago ca. 2076 has two additional stars. The first additional star was added for completion of Chicago’s Project Fortitude, returning the city to the 2nd largest in the US. The second additional star was added after the Complete Continental Congress at Navy Pier, which consolidated all of North America, adding 50 additional states. This makes the six stars summarized as Fort-Fire-Fair-Fair-Fortitude-Federal.
Flag of Grand Europe
The Flag of Grand Europe was formed after the Russian Federation joined the European Union. The flag has the Russian Coat of Arms overlaid in the center of the twelve stars representing the European Union. The double-headed eagle looks west towards the Atlantic and east towards the Pacific. The sceptre and globe allude to Europe’s history of monarchy and rightfully declare the European Union to be the true successor to Rome by being a conglomeration of the collective nations and their historic claims.
Flag of Christiana
The Flag of Christiana (formerly Indiana) reflects the culture of the State of the Sacred Heart. Home to the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, one of the most famous churches in America, a simplified emblem of the Sacred Heart replaces the liberty torch of the former flag. While the stars, a historic symbol of liberty, remain in place, they now orbit a moral center. This emphasizes the ideology of no longer fighting for freedom for the sake of freedom, but freedom for the sake of godliness. The circle of stars have also been rearranged from a circle of 13 for the 13 colonies to a circle of 12 symbolizing perfection and completeness.
Flag of Lincoln
The Flag of Lincoln is for a hypothetical coastal State of Lincoln located between California and Oregon. Inspired from the proposed State of Jefferson, the State of Lincoln is named in homage of Abraham Lincoln. The proposed Jefferson state based its culture around a repudiation of the politics of California and Oregon. However, a culture made on opposition alone is insufficient to last. The proposed State of Lincoln takes inspiration from Lincoln for his preservation of the Union and practical pursuit of righteous causes. The flag is inspired from the original Spanish settlers, historical industry in the area, and the proposed State of Jefferson. The saw-tooth cross is taken from the Spanish Cross of Burgundy. The saw-tooth pattern represents rudimentary saws used in logging, and the gold seal represents a gold pan used by prospectors. Lastly, the green and gold as well as the cross shape is taken from the original flag of the proposed State of Jefferson.
Flag of Mexico
The Flag of Mexico is for the proposed Protectorate of Mexico. It has blue on the left side representing its ever growing relationship with the United States while still retaining its original tricolor. The Aztec-inspired symbol of an eagle perched on a cactus eating a snake has been replaced with Our Lady of Guadalupe, borrowed from the flag of the Cristeros from the Cristeros War. The addition Our Lady is meant to represent holiness as the moral center of the country,
Flag of New Acadia
The Flag of New Acadia is for a coastal city in Maine at the mouth of the Pennobscot River. The city is a major metropolitan area situated halfway between Boston and Halifax. New Acadia is renowned for its construction being attentive to the natural beauty that surrounds the city and for its rural French Acadian influence. The flag is inspired from the former Flag of Maine with the colors of the Vatican Flag laid behind it.
Flag of New england
The Flag of the Commonwealth of New England is for the new state formed after the union of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont. The state has a population of 15.1 million people, making it the 5th largest state behind New York and ahead of Pennsylvania. The demographics of the state is primarily English and holds onto the traditional American archetypes encapsulated by Norman Rockwell. The capital of the state is Manchester. The flag has the flag of England in the top right corner and six stars with six points each representing the six states that formed the new state. They are arranged forming the outline of a hexagon between them symbolizing the need for cooperation and union to form a better state. The flag is on a green background alluding to the Green Mountain Boys. The ensemble invokes the comforts of the American Christmas tradition. The flag is also meant to be a proto-US flag, representing New England’s role in forming and defining the United States.
Flag of New redwood
The Flag of New Redwood is for a coastal city in the hypothetical State of Lincoln situated between San Francisco and Portland. The flag takes inspiration from the Spanish Cross of Burgundy from the Spanish settlers and uses a red-white-blue color scheme alluding to the US flag. The lone star is tilted so that when the flag is hung vertically, the star will be upright, and the flag will be flipped when inverted. The flag is also meant to match the flag of the State of Lincoln.
Flag of New York City
The Flag of New York City is for an expanded city that has seven boroughs. Parts of Hudson County and Bergen County in New Jersey would become the sixth and seventh boroughs respectively. The purpose is to improve cross-Hudson River cooperation for civil services. The new boroughs could either join the State of New York or remain in New Jersey with New York City partially in the State of New Jersey. The flag incorporates both the British and Dutch flags, alluding to their roles in laying the foundation for New York. However, the colors are not the same as the British cross, showing how the Flag of Britain will not fly over New York again. The seven stripes represent the seven boroughs. The blue stripes represent the Hudson River and the East River. The orange stripes represent the New Jersey boroughs. The four short white and blue stripes shows a horizontal simplified illustration of the Twin Towers. God be with the victims. The alternating blue and white stripes allude to the pinstripes on baseball jerseys. Go Mets!
Flag of San Francisco
The Flag of San Francisco takes elements from the city and incorporates them into the flag. The city name comes from St. Francis. The yellow shape is a horizontal silhouette of the Cross of St. Francis. The black and yellow are the official colors of the City of San Francisco. The yellow border is taken from the current flag of the city.
Flag of the United States (100 Stars)
The Flag of the United States reflects the addition of fifty states to the Union. These states are from the annexation of Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, the Caribbean, and Greenland. The addition of fifty states is meant to offset the influence of the current fifty states. Therefore, their inclusion into the United States will not be overwhelmed by the current union, but will mediate the influence of the older states over the new. The purpose of the union is to secure the North American continent, establish free trade within the union, embark on continental megaprojects and developments, and increase opportunities, investment, security, and stability in less fortunate areas. The flag has 100 stars in a ten by ten configuration with each row slightly offset from the rows next to it.
